I finally got a chance to start one of my photo projects I have been wanting to do for a long time, and inspired recently by a couple of photo books I have been going through - most notably Bill Atkinson’s “Within the Stone.” Not only does it have some of the most mesmerizing images I have ever seen, but the print quality clearly sets a standard for all coffee table books to come.
I have always had a love for photographing rock walls and rock patterns, but wanted to go further with this into the wonderful patterns you find in sections of rocks, minerals, and gemstones. Put me on a cobblestone beach with my camera, and you can probably come back the next day and find me in pretty much the same spot. As a kid I used to sit for hours on a beach hammering rocks together searching for ‘dinosaur bones’ inside. Perhaps that is why my thumbs are kind of flat - sometimes I missed! Now the treasure hunting is in front of my camera.

New Years Day News Flash: An unfortunate attack occurred the morning of New Years Day 2008 in Southeast Michigan where a suspected attack by the anti-Dunkin Donuts Citizens League occured. Long known for their anti-powdered sugar protests and media campaigns, the group tried a different tactic in the opposite direction with hopes to give fuel to their cause. A fleeing white Cadillac with white-walled tires was spotted leaving the state, where an eye-witness recalled hearing one of the white-suited passengers shouting “You want sugar??!! We will give you sugar!!!”

If you have read much material on creativity, you have probably heard the term ‘releasing your inner child’ or something like it. Quite often people refer to the creativity in children because they have not developed some of the mental roadblocks of ‘how things should be’ as many adults have. Certainly a big part of the experience of being a kid is play. Even for myself, sometimes I feel I need that extra push to see something that is there, but I am just not realizing it. Sometimes you just have to get out in the playground and play. It can be difficult to do however, if you view some of the tools in front of you as simply ‘more work.’
The world of inkjet fine art papers is quite amazing. There is an incredible amount of variety available today, and it seems a new kid on the block always creates an atmosphere of excitement. Every year we see new varieties from a continually growing market. Lately I have been reading about a new paper from Harman called Harman Gloss FB AL. It has quite a few raves from people who have tried it and has certainly peaked my curiosity. But the fact is, I am already neck deep in other papers I am still trying. I really have never been content with sticking with just one paper, I am always asking if it can get better. It really is a never ending search for the perfect print.

Yes Tim and Penny, not only did you immortalize your love in the bark of this very nice birch, but now you are immortalized in my blog as well. Ok, your relationship probably didn’t last. And not to pick on Tim and Penny specifically, but how about “MD + JP”, “Sue + Tom”, and of course the ever favorite “John and Kim TLA.” All probably history by now, but this tree still bears your insignificant proclamations.
Terrigal - Photographing the sunset

My kids really like this particular spot. There is lots to explore or simply to spot a crab or other sea creature. It certainly makes a good break from playing computer games or watching TV.
There was a photographer there who setup with a tripod and pointed it at the sea (towards the East at sunset). This struck me as bit odd however, he was onto something. There was unusual level of smog over the see on the horizon and thus the evening sun rendered it as stripes of red shades. Lucky for me and unlucky for him the seagulls put up a show between where I was sitting and the sea resulting in this landscape photograph.
